Australian negotiator, Davis, sends a message to Boko Harm

In this interview, Australian negotiator, who has been working closely with the leadership of the Boko Haram sect, pleads with the group to seize the window provided by the death of Shekau to end the destructive cycle of insurgency in parts of Nigeria, free captured Chubok girls and return to normal life. Excerpts:
A senior member of the European Parliament, Franz Obermayr, alleged that the opposition party in Nigeria could be sponsoring Boko Haram by channeling European Parliament financial aid to Boko Haram in the North East of Nigeria. Do you have any such evidence?

Australian negotiator, Dr. Stephen Davis, and Boko Haram commanders in 2013 after BH reportedly agreed to dialogue
I have never heard any political party mentioned by any Boko Haram leader as funding or being associated with Boko Haram.
The Boko Haram commanders have only mentioned individuals like former Governor Sheriff. I heard Sheriff was APC and now PDP but that is irrelevant to me.
I have never mentioned political parties in my discussions with Boko Haram. The names of individual sponsors were given by Boko Haram leaders, not their political party association.
What sort of sponsorship has been mentioned by Boko Haram that they have received?
Former governor Sheriff was specifically mentioned many times. Specifically for example, Sheriff was mentioned as sponsoring trips of the boys to the Lesser Hajj. There, the boys are “reorientated”.
In effect they are recruited to Boko Haram. When they return to Nigeria the recruits are then taken off for further reorientation by which they mean teaching and for training. Some of the training took place in Mali by Tuareg leaders but now more training is conducted locally.
Could mere funding for Lesser Hajj by the assumed sponsors have manifested in the high level of sophistication that the sect has assumed today?
Funds are provided to purchase weapons. This is sometimes transferred through the Central Bank of Nigeria to a person in Cairo who provides the weapons and also provides military uniforms.
At other times vehicles are purchased in Benin for example and driven into Nigeria where they are sold for cash. They do not mind taking a loss on the sale price as by this method they can obtain cash in Nigeria without a direct link to the sponsor.
This person in Cairo, is he an Egyptian? Why are you not able to disclose his identity to the security agents for necessary action?
No, he is Nigerian. He is a Kanuri who has fought with Boko Haram and now associates with a network of jihadists. I have given all his details to the DG-SSS.
What sort of vehicles do they purchase?
VW Golf was mentioned as a favourite. They can sell these very easily in Nigeria. They do keep some to use for suicide bombing. Some time ago they told me one sponsor pledged six Hilux vehicles for the suicide bombers.
You have heard that a “fake” Shekau was killed last week in Kondunga. Do you believe what the military is claiming that the man killed was Shekau or possibly a “fake” Shekau?
I continue to believe that Shekau was killed on or about June 19, 2013 when we were deeply engaged in peace discussions. I have had so many senior commanders tell me that Shekau is dead. It was several weeks after that a Shekau video appeared on YouTube. When I viewed that video with JAS leaders they immediately said, “That boy.
We have used him before.” They were totally dismissive of any claim that Shekau was still alive. They referred to the person in the video as the “fake Shekau”. Some months later one of the senior commanders told me the name of the fake Shekau was Abdul Mutallif. The commander who named him was the one who wrote the script that the fake Shekau reads from in the videos.
But I have heard they have used more than one fake Shekau. In July this year I was told the fake Shekau is Isa Damasaka. Earlier in June they referred to him as Bashir.
We had been in communication with him over the release of the Chibok girls. Isa Damasaka is one of the names the military has released when identifying the man killed at Kondunga last week. He has also been identified as Bashir Mohammed so I am confident this man is indeed the fake Shekau.
However, I do not know if Abdul Mutallif is another name he used or there is another fake Shekau named Abdul Mutallif who may still be alive. I have no doubt we will know soon so we await a new video by another fake Shekau.
The man who was captured at Kondunga last week was a great source of information about Boko Haram sponsors. He was captured alive. The military are too quick to execute captured Boko Haram leaders. This man could have revealed so much about Boko Haram and its sponsors that may have brought a quick end to the terrorism.
There are some reports that many Boko Haram fighters have surrendered in recent days. You want to say something on this?
This is an indication that Boko Haram commanders now understand that they have been fooled. They have followed a “fake” Shekau. Boko Haram fighters have died following a fake Shekau and fake teaching.
The political sponsors have led these boys to believe that they are purifying Islam, purging the country of corruption by slaughtering people. In fact the political sponsors of Boko Haram are corrupt politicians seeking power and more wealth. The sponsors epitomise all that the Boko Haram fighters are seeking to eliminate from Nigeria.

So what is next for Boko Haram?
The death of the fake Shekau shows how the fighters have been duped and totally misled by the sponsors.
The fighters and commanders would be wise to take this opportunity to reach out to the government for a peace dialogue.
If they do not believe they can have a peace dialogue without being captured and executed the alternative message I have for the commanders is this: Your sponsors will use you and sacrifice you so they can gain power. Set the captive girls free and walk away from Boko Haram while you still have the opportunity.

You are too old to rule Nigeria – APC chieftain, Jibrin advises Buhari to drop presidential ambition

Gen Muhammadu Buhari
A member of the House of Representatives, Hon Abdulmumin Jibrin, has advised former head of state, General Muhammad Buhari, to drop his presidential ambition and support the younger ones in fulfillment of the promise he made to Nigerians in 2011.
The lawmaker, who doubles as chairman of the House Committee on Finance, said that at this time, the ex-military boss would gain more respect by supporting younger candidates in the party to run for president in the 2015 elections.
Jibrin, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who spoke to selected journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, called on Gen Buhari to endorse any of the qualified people in the party.

President Goodluck Jonathan Set To Marry Second Wife Ahead Of 2015. You agree with this rumor

Exclusive and reliable reports reaching FNN from our State House correspondent states that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has concluded plans to get married to a second wife.

According to the reports President GEJ decided on this after he was advised by his aids and political associates that it is the only way he’ll be able to win re-election come 2015.
The ploy became unavoidable, when it was becoming evident to his political strategists that Vice president Arch. Namandi Sambo’s political strength in the North is not strong enough to woo most Northerners to vote for him in the forthcoming elections and as such the President will be getting married to the daughter of a Prominent Political Leader in the North, hereby making him a member of the popular Northern family which will help him gather the much needed votes, especially with the support of his soon to be father-in law.
As at the time of this report, sources within Aso rock has refused to say who the prominent father in law of the President is,but have assured us it is a well-known political force in Nigeria.

It is worthy of note that this is not the first time a marriage of daughters of Nothern Politicians has been used as an avenue to win votes.from the Yaraduas to Atikus, IBBs and Muazus to name a few.
Meanwhile we have not been able to speak with our first lady Dame Patience Jonathan on her views on this development, neither can we confirm if they’ll be a change of first lady too but for now we just have to wait and see how events unfolds. - See more at: http://trustng.blogspot.com/2014/09/president-goodluck-jonathan-set-to.html#sthash.ybsRlMtJ.dpuf

Synagogue Building CollapseThe Truth About T.B. Joshua's 'Bribe' - Another Journalist Explains

A journalist with PM News, Simon Ateba has spoken out about the audio recording of T.B. Joshua and some journalist which was leaked by Nicholas Ibekwe, a reporter who was present at the meeting.
Ateba penned down a though provoking opinion on the issue which has caused lots of controversy since it got out.
Here is what he said:
People have been asking me, “Simon , were you at that press conference on 14 September where Prophet T.B. Joshua allegedly gave N50,000 to journalists to write a positive story on the building collapse that killed many people?”, my answer is always the same.
I was not at that event, I do not know if he gave a bribe, I do not know if it was N50,000, and cannot comment on it. But I do not feel better or more righteous in any way than those who might have collected anything, if money was given.‎
The truth is this, as long as journalists in Nigeria are not paid for months or are given irregular crummy salaries, as long as they are not insured, as long as publishers pocket all the corrupt money they get in the forms of adverts or special reports from corrupt politicians, and as long as Nigerians refuse to spend their money on newspapers, which push publishers to solicit money from politicians who have pocketed everything, many journalists will continue to accept gifts, bribes or whatever you call it.
I understand that foreign journalists at the event and a Nigerian journalist allegedly rejected the money. I am happy they allegedly did and that’s where the profession should be. That’s the ideal we all want. But that’s not where we are. Most journalists in Nigeria have no insurance. Many newspapers in Nigeria have not paid their reporters for months, some even a year, including those newspapers that are even getting those corrupt advert money from government officials.
A CNN, Reuters, Associated Press or BBC journalist will surely die if he was not paid for one year, had no insurance, no house to live in, and no friend to support him. And many former journalists who are now successful and even the society at large, are very wicked. They see a journalist who is striving to stand out, who wants to be objective and unbiased, they watch him as life challenges crush him to death. No car, no house, no savings, nothing to show for 20 years of work. And when such a journalist accepts a gift, the same society says, look at him, he’s corrupt. He’s biased. He’s unethical.
But the same society screaming does not buy newspapers, they prefer to spend all their money on drinks, cigarettes, clothes, bags and cars but demand and expect higher standards from the media. So I am sorry to say it won’t happen.
The society is hypocritical and the media industry is sick. But until there’s a shift, nothing will change. You can say these are just excuses. You may even add that the media should be our conscience, and only truth is acceptable. You will be passing a superficial judgement, because you cannot just should look at corruption in the media without understanding why the rot is so deep and the change so hard. You must understand that it is the product of a failed society.
A corrupt government, a corrupt judiciary, a corrupt police force, a corrupt army, a corrupt civil society, a corrupt banking and financial system, ‎a corrupt educational system, a corrupt political system, in summary, it is the product of a failed country that does nothing when journalists are not paid for months or are left to wallow in poverty after serving their nations for 20 years.
I used to know a journalist who passed on after working for his company for many years in Lagos, ‎and his wife was given only one month salary to take care of herself and their kids. I guess, this, certainly, is not the future we all envisaged after graduating with a First Class at the University. My rambling is getting too long.
Let me summarise.  The journalist who leaked the alleged bribery to the public claimed that he did so because journalists were too soft on Prophet T.B. Joshua and were not reporting the truth. ‎
Hear him: “‎I observed that Nigerian media were being too gentle on TB Joshua despite the glaring irregularities surrounding the collapse. I read more reports about the “hovering craft” and how Boko Haram could have sabotaged the building. “Very little was reported about the structural defects of the building.
Not much was written about the fact that the building originally had 2 floors and was being illegally refurbished with 4 additional floors when it collapsed. We didn’t come hard on the Synagogue Church goons who attacked first responders. We didn’t highlight the fact that many of those that perished could have been saved if NEMA officials weren’t barred from the site for almost three days! We didn’t make an issue of the fact that our colleagues who had gone to report the collapsed building were molested on Saturday.‎”Of course, you all know that these are lies.
What he’s saying is not factual. Or maybe he did not read reporting of the building collapse enough.
On 15 September, the day after the alleged bribe was given to journalists, P.M.NEWS ‎published this editorial: http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2014/09/15/the-synagogue-tragedy/ . You can read it yourself and let me know if it looked like they were being soft on T.B. Joshua or hiding the facts.
The 20-year old newspaper sai‎d in that editorial: “Perhaps most of the dead victims would have been rescued alive if the church staff and people perceived as thugs did not prevent officials of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, from carrying out rescue operations immediately the building crumbled. Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, had to intervene by visitting the scene of the disaster and ordering the church staff to leave  the site before rescue work could start in earnest.”
The newspaper concluded it editorial by saying: “‎We must go beyond speculation to serious investigation to unravel the facts and prevent future tragedies of this magnitude. Those who are found wanting should be made to face the full wrath of the law.” Does that look like a newspaper trying to protect T.B. Joshua or that did not care about the dead?Of course not.
But that was not all. the same day, the cover story of P.M.NEWS ‎in Lagos read: “Boko Haram Attack: Nigerians Blast T.B. Joshua‎”. The lead or the first paragraph of that story read: “‎Nigerians have blasted Prophet T.B. Joshua of the Synagogue Church of All Nations for claiming that Boko Islamist sect might have brought down a six-storey building in his church that has killed more than 40 people.”That front page story was published on 15 September. Does it look like people who were buying the story of a jet hovering over the building before it came down? These examples were just from P.M.NEWS.
It was the same thing for The Punch, The Nation, Vanguard, The Sun, ThisDay, Tribune, The New Telegraph, TheNews Magazine, and even TVC and Channels TV, as well as other television and radio stations. So it is not factual to say that Nigerian journalists were being soft on T.B. Joshua or were hiding the facts. It is simply a lie.
If Nigerian journalists collected the money, they did so because of a sick industry, a failed state and the reasons I mentioned above. But the money certainly did not change the facts. And we all knew the facts even before the audio was leaked last week. ‎
One thing I can say is that until investigation is conducted and concluded, no one can claim to know exactly what led to the building collapse.‎ It will just be ranting, and rambling that lead to semantic noise but nothing evidential or concrete. ‎
I can say more, and go on and on, but for now, it’s time to mourn the dead.‎ May their souls rest in peace.
